Manchester United’s young striker Ethan Wheatley had an incredibly busy weekend.
The United youngster made his senior debut for the Red Devils in a 4-2 victory over Sheffield United in 2024.
It was an extra significant moment as he became the 250th player from the academy to represent the first team.
He spent last season on loan at Walsall for a while and he has been at Northampton Town this season.
Wheatley has only managed to find the back of the net one time in 11 League One matches though.
In spite of the low scoring return, the 19 year old is clearly giving it his all.
The club’s official website reports that “Ethan Wheatley showed his commitment to the Northampton Town cause at the weekend by playing two games in two days.”
He was on duty with the England Under-20s but came off the bench the next day for Northampton in a defeat to Rotherham United.
Wheatley came on as a sub for England on Friday and almost grabbed a last gasp equaliser for The Three Lions in their 0-1 loss to Switzerland.
He then returned to the bench for Northampton the next day but was asked to come on after just 21 minutes due to an injury picked up by Jack Vale.
Commenting to local media after Wheatley stated that he did not expect to play so many minutes on Saturday. He added, “not necessarily, no. I was expecting to come on and put a shift in but, with Valey’s injury, I had to come on a bit earlier. Obviously, I was ready to do a job, to be honest, and put everything out there for the team.”
Elaborating further he claimed, “yeah, it’s been a busy week. I had one day with the seniors, helping them prepare for the Wales game. I got a good 34 minutes yesterday [Friday] and then on to today. That’s all done now and it’s disappointing to not come away with the three points.”
Wheatley also expressed his delight at being able to train with the England senior team and expressed how he wants to be there one day as a regular member of the national team.
