Nico O'Reilly, Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic are all in contention for the Etihad Player of the Month award for April.

The trio have all made a key contribution with City stepping up our bid to seal a top-five finish – and with it qualification into next season’s Champions League – as well as securing our place in a third successive FA Cup final.

Here we outline each player’s credentials:

Nico O’Reilly

It’s a second successive Player of the Month nomination for O’Reilly who continues to go from strength to strength for City.

The Academy graduate further cemented his place at left-back in Pep Guardiola’s side with another series of outstanding individual displays.

The 20-year-old started every game in all competitions and further demonstrated his eye for goal, netting a maiden Premier League strike in our 5-2 home win over Crystal Palace before repeating the feat a week later to break the deadlock in a vital 2-0 triumph at Everton.

Nico then rounded off the month with another mature performance at Wembley to help City overcome Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the FA Cup semi-final.

Matheus Nunes

Much like O’Reilly, Nunes has demonstrated his versatility and flexibility by shining in a new role at right-back.

The Portuguese international arguably enjoyed his finest month to date since joining City from Wolves in the summer of 2023.

Amongst his many highlights, it was Nunes who set up O’Reilly with a pinpoint assist for the crucial late breakthrough in that 2-0 success at Goodison Park.

Three days later Nunes went one better, choosing the perfect occasion to register his first Premier League goal for City by brilliantly firing home a 94th minute winner from a tight angle to secure a priceless 2-1 victory over fellow high-fliers Aston Villa at the Etihad.

Mateo Kovacic

Last but by no means least Mateo Kovacic completes our trio of April nominees.

The Croatian international midfielder brought all his vast experience to bear with a series of bravura displays at the heart of the City engine room.

Mateo also illustrated his impact in front of goal too, first striking to fire City 3-2 ahead en route to a memorable 5-2 league success at home to Crystal Palace before then scoring to seal that 2-0 triumph at Everton.

And the 30-year-old then rounded off April with a quite magnificent performance in last Sunday’s 2-0 FA Cup semi-final triumph over Forest where he also provided the assist for Rico Lewis’s opener.
