The Europa League’s inaugural league phase comes to an end this evening with all 36 teams in action in a packed schedule.
There’s plenty to play for in the final fixtures, with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Rangers among those jostling for qualification to the knockout rounds.
Ahead of tonight’s Europa League football, we’ve pulled out the crystal ball to predict the results for the British sides. With the aid of analysis from Score Prediction we’ve picked out winners and losers from matchday eight.
Manchester United are one of three unbeaten sides in the league phase and have racked up four consecutive wins. The Red Devils started slowly with three draws in succession, but have found their form to move within reach of the next round.
A last-gasp win over Rangers last time out all but assured the Red Devils of their place in the Round of 16 and a win here will confirm their passage – though it’s unlikely to be convincing.
Ruben Amorim’s team have struggled for consistency and fortuitously overcame Rangers and Fulham in their last two games.
FCSB are also in the top eight having exceeded expectations in Europe. The Romanians have lost just once in the competition, though that was a 4-0 hammering at Rangers in October.
Prediction: FCSB 0-1 Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur host IF Elfsborg and know a win will be enough for a place in the Round of 16.
Ange Postecoglou’s side beat Hoffenheim in Germany last time out but crashed to a costly defeat to relegation-threatened Leicester in the Premier League at the weekend. Injuries have crippled the North Londoners this season, though the return of Micky van de Ven is a huge boost.
Swedish stars Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall will be determined to make an impact against the Allsvenskan outfit, who have already upset Roma and Nice this season. However, their form on the road has been less impressive with three defeats from three games.
Prediction: Tottenham 2-0 IF Elsborg
Rangers welcome Union SG to Ibrox looking to respond to their late defeat in Manchester last time out.
The Scottish side are 13th in the table and guaranteed a place in the playoffs. A victory this evening could take them into the top eight though it would need favourable results elsewhere on matchday eight.
Union SG are 15th in the standings, behind Rangers on goal difference. This should be a tight contest between two teams who have each reached the latter stages of this competition in recent years.
Prediction: Rangers 2-2 Union SG
