European clubs on alert with Salah and Liverpool ‘far apart’ in contract talks | OneFootball

Mohamed Salah is attracting interest from ‘top’ clubs in Europe amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future at Liverpool.

Salah’s current contract expires at the end of the season and the 32-year-old will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January.

The Egyptian international is one of three high-profile players whose Liverpool deals expire in the summer, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool have chosen to keep the progress on contract discussions internal but Sky Germany are reporting that the Reds and Salah are still ‘far apart’ on potential terms.

Salah has started the season in superb form having scored 10 times and created 10 more in all competitions. However, he will turn 33 next summer and there are reservations over the length of lucrative new deal.

On Sunday, Salah posted a cryptic message on X that said: “No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”

Arne Slot hinted he is keen for Salah to sign new terms and believes he is capable of replicating the longevity of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

“There is no reason at the moment to think that he is dropping in terms of level,” Slot said after Saturday’s win over Aston Villa.

“That’s not what you see when you look at his numbers or what you see when he plays. I don’t know how to say this in English, but I cannot tell you how the future will look like.

“Cristiano Ronaldo, what age is he at the moment? [39]. Messi is still incredible [at 37]. But there are also players like me who weren’t as good any more at 33, not that I was so good at 26. I don’t know what the future brings but I do know Mo is in a very good place.”

Salah has been a long-standing target for teams in the Saudi Pro League, with Liverpool having turned down a bid in excess of £100m from Al-Ittihad in 2023. Interest in Salah from the Middle East remains high, though Salah also has options at leading clubs in Europe.

The winger has scored 221 goals in 336 appearances since joining Liverpool from Roma, with only four players having scored more for the Merseysiders. He is eighth for goals in Premier League history and has won three Premier League Golden Boots and two PFA Player of the Year awards among his individual honours at Anfield.
