European football executives backing PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi to challenge Gianni Infantino in 2027 FIFA election | OneFootball

Executives and offcials within European football are considering PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi as Gianni Infantino’s challenger for the 2027 FIFA election, according to Politico. The Swiss is set to be unopposed and reelected for a fourth full term as FIFA president for the 2027 FIFA election, which would extend his tenure as world football’s supremo to 15 years.

The outlet understands that Infantino’s controversial plan to sell off World Cup stakes to outside investors has accelerated UEFA’s search of a challenger to Infantino. Politico reports that several European football executives circled around Al-Khelaïfi.

The 52-year-old Qatari is not only PSG’s president, but also the chairman of the European Football Clubs (EFC, formerly the ECA), a member of UEFA’s Executive Committee and the chair of the beIN Media Group, making him one of the most influential executive in European football

A statement from Al-Khelaïfi’s representatives states that the PSG president has “absolutely no ambition, no intention, no interest in the FIFA role. He will continue to discreetly support all the institutions of world and European football.”
