Flora, the widow of Eusébio, missed a scheduled appearance at the Loures court on Friday, 13 March, after suffering anxiety on her way to testify in the defamation case between Luís Filipe Vieira and João Malheiro.
According to Glorioso 1904, Vieira is accused of defaming Malheiro over comments made on CMTV. The defence, led by lawyer João Correia, asked the court to summon the doctor who issued Flora’s medical note to confirm whether her incapacity was temporary or of a serious nature.
The judge rejected that request, against Flora’s wishes, and set provision for her to give evidence via WhatsApp at the next session on 14 April at 14:00.
A medical report on file states she has no established dementia. The court will assess any memory loss or disturbance when questioning her and intends to hear her initial account.
With Flora absent, regarded by the court as a key witness in determining which side is right, only Vieira’s statement was heard in Friday’s session. Toni, the former Benfica player and coach, and the maestro António Vitorino D'almeida have already testified at Malheiro’s request.
