Evelin Bonifácio, the 18-year-old attacking midfielder for Santos’ Sereias da Vila, has received her first Brazil women’s senior call-up. She replaces Jheniffer of Tigres, sidelined by a left-foot plantar fascia injury, for the Fifa Series.

According to Diario Do Peixe, Bonifácio had previously been involved with the senior set-up only for training camps. She described the official summons as the fulfilment of a childhood dream, blending nerves with great happiness and a sense of duty being met.

The Fifa Series supports member federations in organising friendly matches between four national teams from different confederations in a single host country. In Brazil, games will be staged at Arena Pantanal in Cuiabá, with South Korea, Zambia and Canada joining the hosts.

With Santos’ tradition of producing leading players, she said carrying that identity into the national team brings responsibility as well as pride. Representing her work, the club and those around it, she added, drives her to give her best.

Bonifácio had been with Brazil Under-20s for friendlies against the United States in Kansas. After being drafted in, she travelled directly from the United States to Cuiabá.

Santos recently confirmed her contract renewal. She debuted for the first team last year and remains in Caio Couto’s squad. The women’s side face Atlético-MG on 20 April, and she scored her first senior goal in the recent draw at Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro.
