After signing four players for more than €16o million and with a deal for Manuel Ugarte edging closer, Manchester United need to move players on to steer clear of breaching any Profit and Sustainability rules.

One player who is attracting plenty of interest this window is Scott McTominay, after a brilliant individual season for club and country.

He was United’s most impactful player, with his goals contributing 12 points to United’s final tally as the Scot turned super sub last campaign.

Erik ten Hag has reiterated his desire to keep hold but the academy graduate is one of the most sellable assets and his sale will generate pure profit, something that will help keep FFP concerns off United’s back.

McTominay’s future

But INEOS will not let go of him for cheap, asking for £30 million from any interested suitors with Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce failing to cough up the required funds.

Fulham were also in the race but failed with two bids before proceeding to sign United target Sander Berge. Napoli are reportedly close to winning the race, having bid £21 million as relayed by The Peoples Person.

The Red Devils are likely to reject the bid, but should the Serie A side manage to move on Victor Osimhen, they should be able to match the asking price.

Football Insider have claimed that Everton are also eyeing a late swoop for the Scottish international with Sean Dyche’s men lacking a midfield leader following Amadou Onana’s departure.

But following last season’s PSR nightmares which saw them receive a points deduction, there are doubts whether the Toffees can afford United’s asking price.

“Everton are considering a move to sign Scott McTominay from Man United before 31 August, sources have told Football Insider. However, sources say the finances involved in a permanent deal could derail Everton’s attempts.

Everton also in the race

“McTominay’s future at Old Trafford is up in the air amid talk that United will need to cash in on him to fund their own transfer plans.

“Dyche and the recruitment team at Goodison Park remain desperate to bring in a new midfielder before 31 August after losing Amadou Onana to Aston Villa.”

McTominay would add goals to Everton, a quality they severely lack at the moment, while his versatility could be a huge boost for Dyche and he could turn out to be a “statement signing” for the club.

But whether they can beat Napoli to his signature remains to be seen. McTominay will also have a say in his future and there is no uncertainty he will agree to join a side that might get dragged into a relegation dogfight.

Napoli remains his best bet if he does leave his boyhood club this summer. But will he?
