The Toffees got off to a flying start when Beto beat the offside trap off a defence-splitting pass from a Jarrad Branthwaite free-kick, finishing superbly beyond goalkeeper Alisson.

Yet that lead lasted just over four minutes, Mo Salah supplying a sublime cross for Alexis Mac Allister to rise highest and deliver a looping header for the equaliser.

Into the second half and David Moyes' side held firm defensively until a sharp finish from Salah following an excellent team move put the visitors in front.

And just when it looked like the Reds were going to move nine points clear at the top of the Premier League, James Tarkowski smashed home a 97th minute equaliser to send the Goodison faithful wild.

A lengthy VAR check ensued, but the goal stood to end a truly dramatic night on Merseyside.

The end of the game saw a scuffle and Abdoulaye Doucouré shown a second yellow card, while Arne Slot was also given a red card by the referee in the aftermath.
