As Everton prepare for a crucial summer rebuild, one name has climbed to the top of their shortlist, Mainz full-back Anthony Caci. According to TEAMtalk, the French defender has been closely monitored by the Toffees in recent weeks.
“TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal that Everton have been following Mainz star Caci for weeks and they consider him a serious target for this summer.”
The 27-year-old, who can operate on both flanks as well as further forward, is seen as a key option to reinforce a defence depleted by exits and underwhelming performances. With Ashley Young departing and long-serving captain Seamus Coleman edging towards retirement, Everton’s defensive flanks are ripe for renewal.

Caci’s appeal lies not only in his reliability but in his flexibility. His preferred position is at right-back, but he’s equally capable at left-back, a trait he demonstrated during his time at Strasbourg. In fact, he has also featured as a right-sided midfielder, making him a versatile and tactical asset.
His numbers from the 2024/25 season back up that reputation: 35 appearances across all competitions, one goal, seven assists, and 25 completed crosses, a figure that would have stood out in Everton’s often blunt attacking setup.
In a financial climate where Premier League clubs are treading more carefully, Caci’s reported price makes the deal even more attractive. Mainz are open to a sale with the Frenchman unlikely to extend beyond 2026, and the asking price remains under €10m (£8.5m).
“TEAMtalk understands that Caci is available for less than €10m (£8.5m) – a bargain fee for a player of his experience, versatility, and quality.”
That fee is seen as fair by both Everton and Fulham, who are also keen on the defender. Fulham held talks with Mainz as early as January and remain in contention — but Everton’s urgency, particularly after Moyes’ return and the club’s reshuffle, could prove decisive.

David Moyes has identified his priorities early, and full-back options are near the top of the list. With Caci available and Vladimir Coufal also linked on a free, the club appear intent on recruiting depth and experience.
“TEAMtalk contributor Darren Witcoop revealed on June 11 that Coufal favours a move to Everton to reunite with Moyes.”
Whether Caci arrives as a starter or rotational player, his addition would bring much-needed dynamism to a squad that has stagnated. For a manager like Moyes, who prizes reliability and defensive structure, the Frenchman seems a natural fit.
Anthony Caci looks like one of the most sensible targets Everton has been linked with in a long time. Affordable, versatile, and experienced in one of Europe’s top leagues, this is the type of profile we should be chasing.
The departure of Ashley Young has left a gap, and Coleman, for all he’s given, can’t go on forever. Nathan Patterson hasn’t fully convinced, so we need someone who can step in and contribute immediately. Caci offers just that, and at under £9m, it’s hardly a risk.
What’s even more encouraging is his creativity. Seven assists and 25 crosses last season? That’s production we’re missing from wide areas. If you’re going to play deep and hit on the counter, which Moyes may well favour, then your full-backs need to deliver quality service. Caci ticks that box.
Fulham might push hard, but Moyes has history with Coufal, and if Caci follows, it shows we’re building with clarity. We just hope the board backs Moyes to act before we get gazumped. This deal feels like low-cost, high-reward, the kind of smart business we’ve lacked for years.
