Everton are making notable strides in their summer recruitment campaign, with credible reports suggesting progress in their pursuit of Bayern Munich youngster Adam Aznou.
According to Patrick Boyland of The Athletic, the Merseyside club is in discussions with the German giants over a potential deal worth around €9 million, although negotiations are still ongoing and not yet finalised.
Aznou, a highly rated left-back who has represented both Spain and Morocco at youth levels, is viewed as one of the more exciting young defender in Europe. The 19-year-old has struggled for first-team minutes in a star-studded Bayern squad but has consistently impressed for their youth teams and in international competition.
Speaking at a Men in Blazers event, Everton manager David Moyes emphasised the scale of the club’s rebuilding mission, saying he would like to bring in “nine or 10" more players” this summer. It's a bold statement but perhaps a necessary one, considering Everton’s thin squad.
The potential acquisition of Aznou would fit the club's broader strategy of blending promising youth with experienced reinforcements. Moyes has a reputation for maximising talent development—something he may hope to replicate with a player like Aznou, who is seen as a long-term project with immediate upside.
As expected, Everton fans have been quick to weigh in. Many praised Boyland for breaking the news, with several noting that Aznou’s name had not surfaced widely in the rumor mill before today. User @Benjwinst commented, “Seems a lot of noise that he wants out too. Let’s hope it can get done 👏🏽,” while @EvertonF1878_ raised a concern familiar to Evertonians: “Is this gonna be one of those ‘Argh we tried but just couldn’t get it over the line’?”
The skepticism is understandable. Everton have had a recent history of near-misses in the transfer market, often linked to financial constraints and behind-the-scenes turmoil. But this time, fans sense some momentum building under Moyes, who is back at Goodison Park with clear intent and authority.
Aznou could be a valuable addition not just for his potential but also because Everton’s depth at full-back has been exposed in recent seasons. The player’s technical ability, pace, and defensive intelligence make him an intriguing option whether as a backup or even as a first-choice in the right tactical setup.
While it's still early days in negotiations, the reported €9m fee suggests Everton are looking for value signings rather than marquee names. In the post-PSR (Profit and Sustainability Regulations) era of Premier League spending, clubs like Everton must shop smart—and this could be a clever move if they can fend off rival interest.
As the transfer window heats up, Everton fans will be hoping that this deal doesn't become another "almost." With Moyes publicly stating his desire for a major squad overhaul, the coming weeks could define how competitive the Toffees will be next season.
If Aznou is the first of Moyes’ 10, then Everton may just be laying the foundations for a new era—one built on hungry young talent and a manager with a point to prove.
