Everton are ‘not close’ to a deal with Leeds United to bring in winger Willy Gnonto this summer, according to the BBC.

Gnonto was close to leaving Elland Road to join the Merseyside club last summer and even handed a transfer request to force a move.

The Whites though were not willing to let him leave unless their asking price was met and eventually reintegrated him into the first team.

The Toffees have not forgotten the Italian though and after Leeds’ failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League, they are yet again plotting a raid.

Despite interest from Everton though, a deal is ‘not close’ to happening.

It now remains to be seen whether any movement is made in that direction as the window progresses.

Gnonto finished last season with 44 appearances overall, 36 of which were in the Championship and three in the playoffs.

He still has a contract with the Yorkshire club running until the summer of 2027.
