Everton have reached an agreement in principle to sign Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard for around £7 million, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

Everton manager David Moyes wants a replacement for Idrissa Gueye and the Gunners star could move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium club.

Norgaard would undergo a medical next week and become the Toffees’ fourth summer signing should the deal be formalised.

The 32-year-old Danish midfielder joined Arsenal from Brentford last summer but struggled for regular playing opportunities.

The Everton target made 20 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side and will hope to become a regular starter for Moyes next season.

The Toffees have already signed English midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough, and adding Norgaard to their squad will be huge.

The former Brentford captain brings plenty of experience, leadership and quality to the table and should start plenty of games for the Merseyside club if he moves there.

Arsenal are closing in on a move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, and Norgaard will struggle to play if he does not leave.

He is already behind Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly in the pecking order at the Emirates.

Everton are signing a good player and will hope to recruit more quality players having also completed permanent deals for Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl.

They were both on loan in Merseyside last season, from Chelsea and Freiburg respectively, and the club are also eyeing a deal for Jack Grealish.
