Armstrong joined Everton’s youth set-up back in 2012 when he was only five and played his way through the youth ranks for 12 years.

In the first half of this season, Armstrong featured in three Premier League games for Everton; he is rated highly at the Toffees.

Derby loaned him in the winter transfer window and he became an integral part of their team, clocking more than 1,100 minutes in the process as they survived in the Championship.

He admitted that he did not know what to expect at Derby, but insisted that he enjoyed his time at Pride Park with each passing day.

“[The loan spell] probably went a bit better than I expected to be honest”, the 18-year-old told Rams TV (1:10) when he was asked about his half-a-season at the Championship club.

“I think, coming in, I did not really know what to expect, but it has gone by, and I have enjoyed it.

“So, that is all you can ask for.”

He also added he will not forget what a fantastic club Derby are and expressed his delight at how well the Rams staff made him feel at home.

“[I will remember] just how good the club is, how much I enjoyed my time.

“It is a great club, the fans are unbelievable, and it is a great group of lads.

“The staff have been great with me.”

Now, with the Championship season ended, Armstrong will return to the Toffees, and it remains to be seen if David Moyes will give him chances in pre-season to see him have a crack at the first team next term.

Alternatively, another Championship cards could be on the loan for him.
