After a difficult week on and off the pitch, Chelsea are bidding to sign off for the international break on a high as they face Everton in a crucial Premier League fixture this evening. The Blues have suffered three straight defeats in the space of ten days, losing ground in the top-four battle and crashing out of the Champions League in rather humiliating fashion at the last-16 stage.

Additionally, Chelsea have lost captain Reece James to injury, while Enzo Fernandez has raised speculation about his future by hinting at a summer exit. Liam Rosenior's side now pay their first visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium hoping to get back on track.

Everton, meanwhile, have picked up more points away from home so far this season but did beat Burnley in their most recent match here before losing to Arsenal in London. European qualification remains a possibility for the Toffees, currently a dark-horse in the Champions League battle, a win this evening would move them to within two points of Chelsea. Liam Rosenior is expected to name a strong team, which could include a return for Estevao, who has not played since the middle of last month due to a hamstring injury.

There could be another run out at centre-back for Jorrel Hato, while Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez will be good to go after being taken off with half an hour to go on Tuesday to give them a rest.

Silvino Louro, Jose Mourinho’s long-time goalkeeping coach at the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, has died.

Silvino’s passing at the age of 67 following an illness was announced on Thursday night.

At another time, or at another club, the signing of Jorrel Hato might well have prompted far greater fanfare, writes Dom Smith.

When Chelsea signed him from Ajax in August, it brought to an end months of the Dutchman’s name being bandied around and linked with a host of top clubs. He was, after all, considered one of the brightest young defenders on the continent.
