Everton reportedly sent representatives to watch Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston last night.

The Toffees target is wanted at the Hill Dickinson Stadium club and he has told the Scottish Premiership champions that he wants to leave.

Johnston played all 90 minutes as the Hoops started their title defence with a 1-0 victory.

He wants to leave Celtic for Everton as Blues manager David Moyes eyes a replacement for Seamus Coleman.

They have yet to lodge a formal bid for the Canada international, but talks have taken place between the two clubs.

Celtic want around £15 million for the 27-year-old, but Everton are also exploring other targets for the priority position.

RB Leipzig star Ridle Baku is another option who has been considered.

The Germany international is on the Toffees’ radar but nothing concrete has started.

Moyes wants an out-and-out right-back, and both Baku and Johnston fit the bill given their impressive performances in the Bundesliga and Premiership, respectively, over the years.

Everton may need to meet the Hoops’ demands if they want the Canadian right-back.

He is worth £15m and the Toffees have to be willing to spend if they want a quality full-back.

They also have other options and the fans will hope they get the perfect man for the job.

Everton are closing in on a deal for Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard after signing English midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough.

They have also strengthened in attack with permanent deals for Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl, and Moyes will now look to bolster his defence.
