In a strange and rather curious piece this week, one journalist took the opportunity after Brendan Rodgers had secured another Scottish Cup Final date in May, to stick the boot in and label a potential Treble for the Irishman ‘tedious’.
It’s remarkable how some of the media react in this country whenever Celtic are on top, and how utterly hypocritical they become when a certain other club (or clubs) have the odd triumph here and there. Some of the stuff they come up with is too contrived for a novel, if truth be told, and the constant slurry of pro-Ibrox fantasy propaganda makes one want to wrench at times.

Even having said that, this latest diatribe really takes the biscuit whilst in the midst of a potential domestic clean sweep. The old saying goes ‘you can only beat what’s in front of you’ and thats what Brendan Rodgers and his team have did this season to devastating effect at times, might I add. The article pulls them up for losing a couple of times to the Rangers, yet bemoans the lack of competition?

The article was posted online and received a wonderful response from former Liverpool and Leeds striker Robbie Fowler. The ex-England international was quick to point out the madness in the premise, which is to say that winning three pieces of silverware in a footballing season is somehow tedious or something that shouldn’t be held in the highest of esteem.

In a wonderful put down of said article, the Premier League legend wrote on Twitter (X):
“Every club, everywhere would take a tedious treble every season.”
Well said that man!
