According to Sunderland Echo, World Cup qualifying is complete and the 48-team field for North America is set, with Sunderland poised to send a healthy contingent this summer.
Lutsharel Geertruida made three qualifying appearances and played 73 minutes in a 1-1 friendly with Ecuador. It would be a surprise if Ronald Koeman left the 20-cap star out.
Chemsdine Talbi managed 13 qualifying minutes but has since earned four caps, including against Ecuador and Paraguay this window. His Sunderland form keeps him in contention.
Brian Brobbey led the line in that friendly and, despite one goal in 10 caps, remains in the mix. He missed qualifying but offers Koeman a useful Plan B.
Nilson Angulo missed that Netherlands game through injury, yet owns 12 caps and featured in Ecuador’s last four qualifiers, ending with a 1-0 win over Argentina. If fit, he will be there.
Omar Alderete is a cornerstone for Los Guaraníes and will start this summer if fit.
Wilson Isidor has switched to Haiti, earning two caps this break and a first senior goal in a 1-1 draw with Iceland.
Habib Diarra played sporadically in qualifying but now has four goals in 18 caps, with improving club form he will surely make Senegal’s squad.
Robin Roefs is uncapped for the Netherlands, yet Sunderland form has earned call-ups.
Noah Sadiki played 73 minutes in the intercontinental play-off and is now key for club and country.
Granit Xhaka anchored Switzerland’s unbeaten qualifying run, missing only 14 minutes, scoring two goals and wearing the armband. This could be his last World Cup, and after a stunning season on Wearside he will be keen to make a mark.
