Some of the world’s top players will be honoured at the Best FIFA Football Awards 2025 on Tuesday December 16.
The awards will be held in Qatar, ahead of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final between Champions League winners PSG and Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo. That match will take place in Doha on Wednesday.
The top prize is the Best Men’s Player, which is similar to the Ballon D’Or but does not always go to the same player. The latest recipient of the award was Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, who was honoured ahead of Manchester City’s Rodri. The Premier League is represented by two nominees this year – Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
The Best Women’s Player will also be recognised, with Aitana Bonmati claiming the award in both of the last two years. The Spanish international is nominated again, as are England and Arsenal trio Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo and Leah Williamson, as well as Gunners midfielder Mariona Caldentey. Chelsea also have four nominees – Sandy Baltimore, Nathalie Bjorn, Lauren James and previous winner of the award Lucy Bronze.
Other awards include the Best Goalkeeper. Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, Manchester City’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and Arsenal’s David Raya are all up for the prize, which has been won twice in the last three years by Villa’s Martinez. Both Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton and Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce are nominated for the women’s award.
The Puskas Award and the Marta Award will honour the best goals scored in men’s and women’s football. Arsenal’s Declan Rice has been nominated for the second of his stunning free-kicks scored against Real Madrid. Arsenal also have a nominee for the Marta Award, Mariona Caldentey, and Manchester City duo Vivianne Miedema and Khadija Bunny Shaw are also in contention.
The Best FIFA 11 for both men’s and women’s football will also be unveiled, as will the Best Coach awards. Mikel Arteta, Enzo Maresca and Arne Slot are all in the running for the men’s award. Whilst Sonia Bompastor, Renee Slegers and Sarina Wiegman are all nominated for the women’s award.
