A former member of the defensive ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona is in line for a staggering payday in Saudi Arabia over the next couple of years.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Sunday provided an insight into the wage packet afforded to Iñigo Martínez by Al-Nassr.

The name of defender Iñigo of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital earlier this month.

As much came after word was forthcoming that, somewhat out of the blue, the 34-year-old was on the verge of bringing a close to the Barcelona chapter of his career.

In the face of a big-money offer from the Middle East, Iñigo made the call to move on for one final pay day.

Barcelona, for their part, did not stand in the way of the stopper’s exit, opening the door for as much courtesy of a contract termination.

And as alluded to above, this weekend, a further insight into precisely why Iñigo simply couldn’t afford to turn the proposal in question down has been provided.

As per a report from Sport:

‘An offer arrived that was unrejectable. The terms were 20 million euros net per season. One season plus another second season of very easy compliance. Almost 40 million clean for two years.’

The understanding is that the one year remaining on the former Athletic Club star’s Barcelona deal featured wages of €6 million net.

At 34 years old, and with his career winding down, it is in turn hard to blame Iñigo for taking advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime financial opportunity.
