Ex Inter Milan & Italy Star Names Inter As Serie A Title Favourites Over Napoli: ‘They Have The Best Squad’ | OneFootball

Christian Vieri feels Inter Milan are the favourites for the Serie A title over Napoli, as they have “the best squad.”

The former Nerazzurri and Italy striker gave his title predictions in the Sportweek insert in today’s print edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. He also praised striker Francesco Pio Esposito.

Inter Milan and Napoli are the two teams going into this season as the two main title contenders in the view of the majority of pundits.

The Nerazzurri and the Partenopei were separated by just one point at the top of the table at the end of last season. The title race went down to the final day.

Over the summer, Inter lost coach Simone Inzaghi. However, they brought in several young players for new coach Cristian Chivu.

Meanwhile, Napoli kept Antonio Conte on as coach. Furthermore, they had a hugely ambitious summer of spending to strengthen their squad.

However, the reigning Italian champions will have to cope with European football this season. That will be a big question mark in comparison to Inter, who are used to juggling different competitions.

Vieri: “Inter Serie A Title Favourites Over Napoli, They Have The Best Squad”

Former striker Christian Vieri commented that “I always see Inter as the favourites.”

“In my opinion they still have the strongest squad,” he continued.

“Then, if you’re to ask me whether I think they’ll win the Scudetto, I’d say I don’t know. I have no idea.”

Meanwhile, Vieri commented on the high average age of the Inter squad. “It’s true,” said the former striker. “But the players are still top quality.”

“Napoli are right up there with them,” he went on. “And they already won it last season, despite being inferior to the Nerazzurri.”

Meanwhile, Vieri also gave his thoughts on young Inter striker Francesco Pio Esposito. “He’s a great player because he’s physically strong and has the right mentality,” he said.

“These are important characteristics. Because at international level, everyone is a beast, a giant.”

Vieri contends that Pio Esposito “has already shown that he can hold his own at that level.”

“He’s great in the air. He plays for the team. He’s good at laying it off. And he can score goals.”

Then, Vieri added that Pio Esposito “needs to play to gain experience.”
