Tottenham Hotspur are considering hiring former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou’s position is under threat following a turbulent campaign at Tottenham. The North Londoners are 15th in the Premier League table and just seven points above the relegation places.
At the weekend, Spurs lost at home to struggling Leicester City, the club’s fourth consecutive league defeat. While a number of key injury absences are mitigating factors, Spurs are understood to be considering change.
Asked if he will still be in charge when Tottenham’s injured players return, Postecoglou said on Sunday: “Who knows? I reckon there is probably a fair chunk that will say no.
“When you are the manager of a football club you can be very vulnerable and isolated. I don’t feel that.
“I feel like this group of players, not for me, are giving everything for the club. I have a group of staff that is really committed. I focus on that.
“My role within that is to try and support these players. I can even see in training when the guys who are coming back come back in it is going to give everybody a lift. As I keep saying to the players, there is a fantastic opportunity this season to really make an impact and I know we can.
“But in terms of your question, is there anything I can say about that that is going to change anything that I need to do tomorrow morning? Nothing.”
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ten Hag is a name under consideration. The Dutchman has been out of work since being sacked at Manchester United in October and recently began an advisory role at Borussia Dortmund. He has named as a candidate for the club’s head coach role after the decision to dismiss Nuri Sahin last week.
Ten Hag spent two-and-a-half seasons at Manchester United after being appointed from Ajax. He won the League Cup in his debut campaign and added the FA Cup last season, though was dismissed after a lack of progress in the Premier League.
Spurs have a long-standing interest in the 54-year-old and previously considered Ten Hag for their coach role before his move to Manchester.
