Nottingham Forest and Wolves fans may remember Rafa Mir from his time at both clubs when they were competing in the Championship.

The 28-year-old joined the Midlands outfit from Spanish giants Valencia in the 2018 January transfer window at the age of 20.

He reunited with Nuno Espirito Santo, who was in charge at Molineux at the time and had previously been manager of the La Liga team.

The striker signed a four-and-a-half year deal with Wolves, which was meant to keep him at the club until the summer of 2022.

However, his time in the team proved a disaster as he made just two league appearances before Santo’s side gained promotion to the Premier League that season.

He came off the bench in defeats to Swansea City and Aston Villa, and did not feature again in the second tier until he joined Forest on loan in the 2019 summer transfer window, where he also struggled for game time.

Rafa Mir set for lengthy prison sentence

It has been reported by Yahoo News that Mir is now facing up to 10 years in prison due to aggravated sexual assault.

The public prosecutor on the case is also demanding a 13-year restraining order of 500m for the forward on the victim, as well as an eight-year ban from any activity related to minors.

Mir is also facing a payment of €64,000 (£55,400) to the victim, as well as seven years of supervised release once released from prison.

The 28-year-old is currently plying his trade with Spanish side Elche, where he joined on loan from Sevilla at the start of the season.

However, he has also been accused of making a racist insult towards Espanyol defender Omar El Hilali earlier this week.

The referee paused the game between the two sides last Sunday as part of the anti-racism protocol, which was also seen in Real Madrid’s recent Champions League clash away to Benfica in February.

However, the game resumed and Mir converted a penalty to secure a 2-2 draw for Elche.

Nottingham Forest and Wolves could be back in the Championship

Nottingham Forest and Wolves won’t have any fond memories of Mir, even though he was involved in the latter’s most recent promotion success.

Santo’s side gained their place in the Premier League by clinching the Championship title in 2018, and they have been in the division every season since.

However, Rob Edwards’ team are now set for relegation back to the second tier this campaign, with the club sitting bottom of the table with only nine games to go.

Back-to-back wins over Aston Villa and Liverpool have given them some hope of a great escape, but the gap to safety is still 12 points.

Meanwhile, it is the Reds who have that last safe position in the Premier League table.

Former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has been put in charge to oversee safety from relegation, with the team only one point clear of 18th place West Ham.

Mir only played 11 times for Nottingham Forest as the club narrowly missed out on a play-off place with a seventh place finish in 2019/20.
