Liverpool snatched narrow 1 - 0 win over Burnley thanks to Mohamed Salah’s penalty deep into stoppage time.
But former Premier League referee chief Keith Hackett's sparked debate over the legality of the spot kick.
The Reds struggled to break down Burnley and only found the winner in the 95 minute. The penalty came after Jeremy Frimpong’s cross struck the arm of Hannibal Mejbri inside the box. Salah converted from the spot to seal the win.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hackett explained that Frimpong entered the penalty area before Salah’s strike. According to the rules, this should have led to retake.
"Michael Oliver's 1 of the top referees in England but it’s disappointing he missed this. VAR also didn't intervene" Hackett said.
Oliver judged that Frimpong’s movement didn't affect Burnley’s goalkeeper so the goal was allowed to stand.
Hackett, however insisted the law requires strict retake if any attacking player encroaches.
