Burak Yilmaz has categorically denied rumors of his potential role in the transfer of Hakan Calhanoglu to Fenerbahce.

In a public statement via FCInterNews, the former Turkey captain distanced himself from the matter.

Just as speculation over Calhanoglu’s switch to Galatasaray started to fade, he has become the subject of another rumor.

Indeed, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce have emerged as the 31-year-old’s admirers.

Furthermore, they’re reportedly taking concrete steps to bring the former AC Milan star to Istanbul.

In addition to drafting a formal offer for Inter, they’re ready to hand the player a hefty €6m-per-season salary.

Moreover, unlike Galatasaray, they’re willing to table a €20m bid, which could convince Inter to sell.

Fenerbahce president Ali Koc has already contacted Hakan Calhanoglu to inform him of the club’s interest.

Additionally, he’s preparing for a new round of talks with Inter to negotiate a transfer fee.

Meanwhile, the media have recently started examining Burak Yilmaz’s role in the ongoing negotiations.

Indeed, the ex-Kasipmasa coach has reportedly tried to persuade his former teammate to go to Istanbul.

However, Yilmaz insists he has nothing to do with Calhanoglu’s decision-making.

“Hakan is my brother,” Yilmaz said. “I was also his captain for years. I always talk to Hakan.

“But as a coach, I would never say to him: ‘Go to Fenerbahce or any other team.’

“I have never given him such a recommendation.”

Fenerbahce will try to sign Calhanoglu with or without Yilmaz’s help.

On the other hand, Inter must start preparing for the post-Calhanoglu era.

Despite putting their interest in Ederson on hold, the Nerazzurri may soon revisit their pursuit of the Atalanta star.
