The tensions between Barcelona and the Spanish national football team have reached a boiling point lately following RFEF’s decision to release Lamine Yamal from the squad heading into the November international break.
This dispute intensified after the RFEF revealed that the player had undergone a medical procedure without their knowledge.
Luis de la Fuente has already spoken out publicly against Barcelona’s handling of the situation, while the club officials insist RFEF was kept in the loop.
Nevertheless, perhaps a bigger eye-opener for Barcelona was the way Spain treated Nico Williams, who had been suffering from an identical problem as Yamal, Barça Universal can confirm.
The sudden withdrawal of Yamal, after all, had created a vacant spot in De la Fuente’s squad, which could have opened a door for Nico Williams, who was omitted from the original selection due to his own ongoing pubalgia battle.

However, De la Fuente opted against calling up the Athletic Club star. Instead, the manager has called up Jorge de Frutos for this international window in which Spain will try to secure their World Cup qualification.
By doing so, Nico will continue his training routine at Lezama, which could be a huge relief for Athletic Club.
This favourable treatment has left Barcelona surprised, and the club do not understand why Nico wasn’t considered by De la Fuente while Yamal was in the initial squad.
This could yet again escalate tension between the two entities as Barcelona continue to criticise the way their players, who form a significant part of the Spanish football form, are treated by the Spain camp.
