Barcelona’s summer clear-out is gathering pace, with Marc Casado now on the verge of completing a move to AS Monaco in a deal that is almost finalised.

In that context, Barça Universal can exclusively confirm that the transfer is around 95% complete, with Monaco set to pay approximately €18 million fixed plus a further €5 million in performance-related add-ons.

Furthermore, Barcelona are also pushing to include a future sell-on clause worth around 20%, ensuring they could benefit financially if the midfielder secures a bigger move later in his career.

We can confirm that the deal is expected to be wrapped up this week, bringing an end to Casado’s journey at the club where he developed through the ranks of La Masia.

Barcelona to finalise Casado’s departure

Barcelona have been actively working on player exits as they look to create financial flexibility and squad space for new arrivals this summer.

Casado has emerged as one of the players the club is willing to part ways with as preparations continue for the next phase of Hansi Flick’s project.

Monaco moved quickly once it became clear that the midfielder’s role at Barcelona was becoming increasingly limited.

Discussions between the French club and the player have progressed positively, and all parties are now confident that the operation will be completed shortly.

The move also offers a significant financial boost for the player, as Casado is expected to earn roughly three times more than his current Barcelona salary, making the transfer a win-win for everyone.

As such, European football also played a major role in the midfielder’s decision, with Monaco’s qualification for the Conference League providing him with the opportunity to continue competing on the continental stage.

Why does this move make sense?

While Casado was once viewed as one of the club’s promising academy products, the reality is that breaking into Barcelona’s current midfield has become increasingly difficult.

The Spaniard has gradually slipped down the pecking order behind established names such as Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Gavi.

Furthermore, the emergence of Marc Bernal has complicated his path to regular first-team football, leaving limited opportunities for consistent minutes.

All in all, for Barcelona, securing up to €23 million for a player who is no longer considered a key part of Flick’s plans represents solid business.
