Don Goodman has shared his thoughts on Blackburn Rovers' interest in former Birmingham City winger Koji Miyoshi.

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes VfL Bochum winger Koji Miyoshi would be a good signing for Blackburn Rovers after his strong performances during his previous spell in the Championship with Birmingham City.

Miyoshi joined Birmingham from Belgian side Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2023, and he scored seven goals and provided six assists in 48 appearances during his first season in the Midlands, but he could not prevent the Blues' relegation to League One.

After just one year at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, Miyoshi departed for German side Bochum last summer, but he endured another frustrating campaign as his new club were relegated from the Bundesliga last season, and he scored just one goal in 15 appearances.

Miyoshi came off the bench to provide an assist to help Bochum to a 2-0 win over Elversberg last weekend, but it remains to be seen whether that will be his last appearance for the club amid reported interest from Blackburn.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Rovers are looking to bring Miyoshi back to English football this summer, and while he could cost as much as £2 million, the Lancashire outfit are said to be willing to spend on a new right-winger before the end of the transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Goodman insisted that, despite his £2 million valuation, Miyoshi would be an exciting addition for Blackburn, and he backed him to be a success at Ewood Park after impressing during his stint at Birmingham.

"I do think he'd be a really good addition for Blackburn Rovers," Goodman said.

"£2 million may feel like quite a decent sum for Blackburn to be paying out, but I do think he would add to their ranks.

"In terms of resale value, there may be a little bit if he has two or even three really good seasons.

"He was a shining light actually in that season when Birmingham were relegated from the Championship, and slightly surprisingly, Chris Davies didn't seem to want to use him.

"Off he went to the Bundesliga, and it didn't go well for him last season as Bochum got relegated.

"So a fresh start and a move back to the Championship would be a win-win, I would suggest."

Blackburn Rovers should pursue Koji Miyoshi deal to solve problem position

After losing Tyrhys Dolan when his contract expired this summer, Blackburn are in need of a new right-winger, and their options could be depleted even further after manager Valerien Ismael admitted that he cannot rule out the departure of Ryan Hedges before the end of the window as he enters the last year of his current deal.

With that in mind, the arrival of Miyoshi would be a big boost for Rovers, and as well as providing further depth in the wide areas, the Japan international would also add plenty of quality to Ismael's squad having proven himself at Championship level during his spell at Birmingham.

At the age of 28, Miyoshi would not provide much resale value for Blackburn, which may be a concern for a club that have struggled to bring in transfer fees for players in recent years, but he would at least be able to make an immediate impact at Ewood Park.
