With Reece James fit and playing his most consistent run of games in a couple of years, Chelsea’s right back situation feels pretty good, with Malo Gusto also now integrated.
But James’ fitness can never be trusted, and Gusto has been pretty poor for most of this season, falling far behind where he was in his early months at the club. So it’s no surprise that the Blues continue to be linked with new options, and today Chelsea News sources have mentioned some strong links to a new name.
The 21 year old Flamengo right back Wesley is apparently in our sights, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona also currently watching him. The Blues have apparently “made contact” with the Brazilian’s “inner circle” and are going to get serious after the Club World Cup that both Chelsea and Flamengo are competing in.
The Rio giants want €30m, while Chelsea’s valuation lies at €20m. That’s a pretty small gap all things considered, and should easily be bridged, especially if he performs well under our noses at the CWC.

Previously seen as a bit of a joke competition tacked onto the end of the season, the Club World Cup looks like it’s going to become a major shop window for a lot of the teams involved, and the vast prize money means even the European teams are likely to take it seriously.
As well as getting to see players like Wesley up close, Chelsea will also be able to show off stars they’re keen to sell like Joao Felix or any other valuable first team squad members who didn’t get to play much in the season who they want to shift later in the window.
As for Wesley – we will certainly be keeping an eye on him when we play Flamengo in our group game in June.
