It was exclusively revealed by FLW on Tuesday that the Sky Blues have set an asking price of £15 million for the 25-year-old.

It’s believed that the Championship club are keen on keeping Rudoni, who only joined last summer from Huddersfield Town.

The versatile attacker was a prominent presence in the team in the previous campaign, contributing nine goals and 12 assists from 43 appearances in the Championship.

Goodman believes that Coventry have to hold onto their best players if they are to be a legitimate contender for promotion this season.

He admitted that he’d be very surprised if the Sky Blues opted to cash in on Rudoni this summer given his importance to their Premier League ambitions.

“I would think the Coventry fans would be in absolute uproar if Jack Rudoni was sold to Southampton, a fellow chasing Championship promotion team,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

“He really was a shining light and [he had] an incredible season last season.

Coventry are ambitious, they’ve come close in the play-offs twice now in recent seasons and the owner is ambitious, and they will be desperate to get to the Premier League.

“Selling your best players to competitors is not the way that you get to the Premier League.

“So I would be absolutely shocked if Coventry City entertained selling Jack Rudoni at this moment in time.”

Coventry finished fifth in the Championship table last season under Frank Lampard, losing out on promotion to Sunderland in the play-offs.

The Sky Blues drew their opening game of the new campaign, with their clash against Hull City finishing 0-0.

Coventry have to hold onto Rudoni

Rudoni proved an excellent addition to the Coventry squad last season, playing a role in 21 goals in the league season.

It’s no surprise Southampton are looking at him as a possible signing, especially if they lose Mateus Fernandes before the market shuts.

But if Coventry want to compete for promotion this season, then they have to hold firm and keep star players.

A £15 million asking price is the kind of fee Southampton may actually be comfortable paying if they earn more than that in major player sales, so Coventry should be considering an even bigger fee if the Saints start making serious offers.
