Lee Hendrie has given his verdict on the Dutchman making the move to the League One side
Current EFL pundit Lee Hendrie believes that dropping down into League One could lead to a season where Ibrahim Cissoko could "blossom."
The Netherlands' U21 international had a tough first season out on loan from Ligue 1 side Toulouse, after injury disrupted his time at Plymouth Argyle, and he wasn't able to work his way into Danny Rohl's side at Sheffield Wednesday.
However, before his hip injury sustained in October, Cissoko was one of the very few bright sparks in Wayne Rooney's Pilgrims side, scoring their first goal of the league season in a 1-1 draw with Hull City, before netting a brace in September's 3-1 win over Luton Town.
The 22-year-old didn't start at game at Hillsborough, and his career stalled somewhat as a result. Now, Cissoko has a chance to once again hit the ground running in England, this time at League One side, Bolton Wanderers.
And former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie feels that this move could be pivotal in establishing himself as an exciting player in the EFL.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie said that Cissoko's arrival on loan was "a good signing for Bolton."
"He had a really good spell when he was at Plymouth, and dropping down into League One might just give him more confidence.
"This season could be one where he really blossoms."
The 22-year-old was a direct, quick, exciting winger throughout the limited time he played in the Championship last season. His per 90-minute stats saw him register 3.14 successful dribbles, 6.78 touches in the opposition's box, and 2.38 shots.
Given a full season, Cissoko could really shine in an attacking setup such as Bolton's, especially in League One, where he would be one of the more dangerous wide men in the division.
"Particularly where he plays out wide, he can be a goal threat," Hendrie continued.
"Bolton would have looked at him at Plymouth and realised that they have a really good signing on their hands."
Cissoko's performances in the Dutch top flight with NEC Nijmegen earned him a move to one of the traditional top-five European leagues in France with Toulouse, and a little under two years ago, the 22-year-old was starting games for Les Violets.
That clearly shows an exciting bit of potential, which could truly be uncovered whilst at Bolton.
Steven Schumacher's side have played well so far in their League One outings against Stockport County and Plymouth Argyle, and Cissoko will fit well within the current Trotter's boss' style.
The Dutchman could hold the key to a promotion charge, and with the loan deal with the Ligue 1 side including an option for a permanent sale, this arrival could prove to be one of the signings of the summer in League One.
