Huddersfield Town have expressed an interest in signing Plymouth Argyle wide-man Bali Mumba, Football League World understands
Following an action-packed summer transfer window amid a complete overhaul of the playing squad under Lee Grant, Huddersfield Town are looking to go again and inject further quality throughout January in an effort to return to the Championship at the second time of asking.
The Terriers were tipped as strong title contenders ahead of the 2025/26 League One campaign but have struggled to consistently deliver on expectation under Grant, whose own position at the Accu Stadium has seldom been without pressure and scrutiny from supporters as he navigates his first senior managerial role in charge of the third-tier promotion hopefuls.
Consistent form and defensive solidity have both proven hard to come by for Huddersfield in what has proved a mixed season to date in West Yorkshire. No League One side has scored more goals than the Terriers' 45, but 35 have been let in from just 26 fixtures and they are positioned in fifth following an upturn in form over the Festive period, which saw Town embark on a seven-match unbeaten run before Saturday's 1-0 defeat to promotion rivals Stockport County.
Huddersfield will require a significant boost in order to catch the ever-advancing automatic promotion pack, however, with nine and thirteen points separating Grant's side from Lincoln City and Cardiff City in second and first place respectively.
And, with midfield star Leo Castledine having been recalled from his loan spell by parent club Chelsea to seal a permanent switch to Middlesbrough, the Terriers will need to make a splash this month if they are to double-down on their promotion ambitions.
Football League World can exclusively reveal that one deal could be in the offing for Huddersfield, who have their sights set on a raid of League One rivals Plymouth Argyle.
FLW understands that Town have entered talks to acquire the signature of versatile Plymouth wide-man Bali Mumba in a permanent move.

Exactly how much Plymouth are demanding for Mumba's services remains unclear at this moment in time, but Huddersfield will hope to complete a deal in the coming days and weeks.
Mumba, as it stands, will enter the final year of his contract at Home Park next season, with the ex-Sunderland prospect having first joined Plymouth on loan during the 2022/23 campaign before signing permanently from Norwich City after helping Argyle achieve promotion to the Championship as title winners.
The 24-year-old lit up League One with six goals and seven assists that term but has not matched such numbers since, though he has remained an ever-present and made 43 appearances in each of Plymouth's two seasons at Championship level prior to relegation.

Mumba has featured in every available league fixture for the Pilgrims under Tom Cleverley this term, starting all but two of those amid his side's surprise battle against relegation to League Two in a difficult opening half of the campaign.
The speedy wide-man possesses impressive versatility, which may stand out to Grant as he looks to prepare his squad for a meaningful promotion push in the latter stages of the season.
Mumba can operate on either flank as a wing-back, where he has played most of his football for Argyle overall, but has been utilised in a more attacking role under Cleverley.
Indeed, the utility man has often been deployed on the wing, having provided three assists but zero goals to date, while he's also formed part of a dual-attacking midfield pairing behind talisman Lorent Tolaj.

Huddersfield, in contrast, haven't used out-and-out wingers during Grant's reign, although competition for - or an upgrade on - left-sided wing-back Ruben Roosken would be no bad thing for the Terriers, and that's where Mumba could well feature if Town can get a deal over the line.
