It has been a frustrating few weeks for Liverpool on the pitch and now things are starting to take a bad turn off the pitch too.
In Liverpool’s title-winning season last year, the Reds were rightly applauded for their impressive injury record following the arrival of Ruben Peeters into the backroom staff.
However, this season has already seen a number of players struggling with issues. First of all, both right-backs in Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong were struggling with muscle issues.
Alexis Mac Allister has been struggling for fitness since around March and Alisson Becker picked up a hamstring injury in the defeat to Galatasaray and is now sidelined until after the November international break.
Of course, Giovanni Leoni was hugely unfortunate as he suffered a major ACL injury in his debut for the club in the Carabao Cup clash with Southampton.
But now, there’s a fresh injury concern and it’s a big one…
The past 18 months have been a bit of a nightmare for Jayden Danns, with persistent injuries plaguing his growth.
His loan spell at Sunderland last season ended without him kicking a ball due to a back issue.
The youngster made his return to action from the bench in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Southampton, but has now suffered a fresh setback.
Lewis Bower, speaking to Ben Pescod on Anfield Index’s ‘The Academy’ podcast, revealed the details of the injury:
“I’ve heard from someone in and around the club that it’s a pretty bad injury. I believe the hamstring has tore away from the bone.”
“I was told straight away that it was from taking a free-kick and that was a reliable account of events. It’s looking like a lengthy period out and he’ll require surgery.”
It’s a gruesome and hugely unlucky injury for Danns, but his mindset deserves huge praise for always bouncing back after such setbacks.
Unfortunately, he’s likely to be sidelined for a lengthy spell, usually at least four months, and it might be pre-season before we see him back involved with the Liverpool first-team.
A loan move in January was potentially on the table, but this injury will rule him out of such move this season.
Liverpool Under-21 manager recently claimed that Danns would be England’s next number nine. It’s hard to argue based on his poor quality and potential.
Since being introduced into the first-team under Jurgen Klopp and being part of the famous ‘Klopp’s Kids’ Carabao Cup winners, it has been very stop and start for the striker.
Still just 19 years old, there’s plenty of time for Danns to carve the career that his ability deserves, but these setbacks are starting to become a real worry.
