Boro are yet to bring in any new players in this window.
Blackburn Rovers' Callum Brittain is a right-back option that Middlesbrough are considering going for this summer.
The options available to their new boss, Rob Edwards, on the right side of defence are not plentiful. Aside from veteran defender Luke Ayling, the former Luton Town boss hasn't got many options to turn to.
Boro are yet to make a signing this summer, so Brittain, who has been linked with the Teessiders by Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, could be their first new addition of the window.
They will face competition from Derby County, who are managed by former Blackburn boss John Eustace, and Wrexham. There will also be resistance from the 27-year-old's current club, who don't want to let him leave. However, his contract situation - he now has less than 12 months left on his deal - could leave them vulnerable to attack from Boro and others.
Brittain fits the bill for what Lee Hendrie believes is needed in Edwards' squad. He exclusively told Football League World that his dependability would be a welcome addition to a Boro side that was very up and down under Michael Carrick.
"I think he's obviously been linked with a good few clubs over this summer, and you can see why," said the Sky Sports pundit. "He's he's one of them that's sort of Mr. Consistent, you know his minimum is a seven, seven-and-a-half out of 10.
"That's where I think, when you have that little consistency and you have that experience, Callum Brittain's definitely got that.
"I'm sure that Rob will be looking at players that would fit the bill for him and the football club, and he [Brittain] definitely does. So, yeah, I think it'd be a really good signing for Boro."
The problem that hampered Michael Carrick's side during his tenure in charge at the Riverside Stadium wasn't a lack of quality. Tactics and a lack of flexibility were certainly to blame. Their inability to maintain the high levels that they showed at times was also a major problem.
Some of their highs were magnificent, displaying the form that got them into the play-offs back in 2023. The lows, though, were unacceptable for the team that they had.
Edwards' main concern should be levelling this team out, getting them to play at a more stable rate. Adding someone like Brittain should, in theory, make that transition easier.
