Don Goodman has backed QPR to land a "very hungry" Cyrus Christie this summer.
Don Goodman has touted Queens Park Rangers to be receiving a "very hungry" Cyrus Christie if they opt to sign the defender on a free transfer this summer.
The 32-year-old has been linked with a move to Loftus Road this summer, as new head coach Julien Stephan prepares for his first season in English football.
Christie has enjoyed a strong career, featuring for a host of EFL clubs such as Coventry City, Derby County, and most recently Swansea City, who he departed after the expiration of his contract this summer.
The veteran full-back's time in South Wales never really hit the heights either party would've hoped for, as he made just 11 Championship appearances last season, in what was his second stint with the club.
Despite a frustrating year, plenty of second-tier sides are reportedly keen on Christie this summer, with Millwall, Watford and QPR all linked with a move for the free agent. The latter two were revealed exclusively by Football League World.
In the wake of the news that the Superhoops are interested in signing Christie, Football League World spoke exclusively to Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, and asked him whether he thought this would be a good signing for the R's.
The former Sunderland striker responded: "There's no doubt about it, Cyrus Christie has had a decent career.
"It just feels like it's been quite some time since we've seen the best of him really, three [or] four years or so.
"He'll be 33 in September, which is quite frightening really. I remember him breaking through at Derby County as a youngster, and doing particularly well.
"Time has flown. He will be keen to try and get back to the levels he's capable of, and if Queens Park Rangers can bring that out of him, they're going to have a very good player on their hands, particularly a player who is [available] on a free transfer.
"So I suspect if QPR do get him, they'll get a very hungry Cyrus Christie," Goodman concluded.
Despite an extremely frustrating year on his return to Swansea, the 32-year-old still has plenty to offer in the twilight years of his football career, hence the interest from multiple Championship clubs.
QPR have already been busy during this window, bringing in the likes of Kwame Poku, Amadou Mbengue, and Rumarn Burrell, which represents exciting business. They have also received a £3.5m fee for Charlie Kelman, which could eventually rise to £5m.
Whilst the R's will have cash to spend, the signing of Christie would represent a reliable and low-risk signing as a depth option, which could pay dividends hugely if Stephen manages to get the best out of the defender.
The 32-year-old provides cover in a number of different positions, and as Goodman stated, he will be hungry to find more consistent game time next season, after a year at Swansea which saw him struggle for minutes, making it a low-risk, high-reward deal for QPR.
