Exclusive: The race is on to sign a young Manchester City playmaker

One player who impressed for Manchester City of late is James McAtee. The young playmaker has shown that there could be a role in City’s rebuild for a player of his skillset. But heading into the summer McAtee’s future remains uncertain. Now Esteemed Kompany sources have learned that a host of clubs from the Bundesliga and the Premier League have an interest in signing McAtee this summer.
Esteemed Kompany sources have learned that a host of clubs have an interest in signing James McAtee. Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, VFB Stuttgart and FSV Mainz 05 all have an interest in signing the young attacking midfielder. Esteemed Kompany has also learned that Premier League clubs Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Fulham are also monitoring the situation surrounding James McAtee. Esteemed Kompany sources have further revealed that a transfer fee of between €25-30 million could see McAtee leave City this summer. Based on information learned by Esteemed Kompany, there is no shortage of suitors to sign James McAtee this summer.
It has also been revealed by Esteemed Kompany sources that Pep Guardiola is eager to keep James McAtee at Manchester City. This isn’t a major surprise as Guardiola recently told the media that he was hoping McAtee would remain at the club for next season. But what clouds the situation surrounding McAtee is his contact situation. At the end of this season, he will only have one year left on his current deal. Sam Lee has previously reported for the Athletic that Manchester City were set to offer McAtee a contract extension. That report emerged in August last year. But as of yet McAtee hasn’t signed a contract extension with Manchester City. That may indicate that he could seek more opportunities elsewhere this summer. James McAtee’s future is a story to watch for this summer.
James McAtee has shown in recent weeks he could have a role to play in City’s rebuild. His versatility and technical ability make that possible. But if he decides he wants more opportunities next season there are a host of clubs interested in signing him. It now appears that the race to sign McAtee is on. He could have his choice of a host of Bundesliga and Premier League clubs if he wants to leave Manchester City for more playing time elsewhere.
