Viktor Gyokeres’ former coach, Dalibor Savic, believes Manchester United is the perfect club for the prolific striker.

The Swede has scored 30 goals in 28 appearances this season for Sporting CP and has emerged as one of Europe’s most lethal finishers.

Gyokeres’ stock rose further after a sublime hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this season.

Despite former boss Ruben Amorim’s departure for Man Utd, Gyokeres has continued his fine form and netted another hat-trick in Sporting’s latest league match on Friday night.

His form has sparked major interest from across Europe but Savic, who was the head coach of Brommapojkarna, one of the top academies in Sweden during Gyokeres’ teenage years, believes a reunion with Amorim at United would make the most sense.

Speaking exclusively to HaytersTV, Savic said: “I think that’s [Man United] 100 per cent the best club for him right now.

“To go to a coach who likes him, who loves him, who knows how to use him, how to work with him.

“I think the kind of football Manchester United is playing is more suitable for him than playing in Manchester City, it’s a different kind of football.

“I think he can be in a big club like Manchester United, I think that’s a good step for him to go to and hopefully, he can bring Manchester United to glory days again.

“I think England is a good league for him because he’s very physical, he’s very strong and he can work hard for a long time and a lot of actions.

“Viktor is a football player, he needs space to run in behind the defenders. He’s a counter-attack player. You can see the game when Sporting was playing against Manchester City in the Champions League, it was a lot of transition goals like counter-attacks.

“And for me, if he wants to play in the bigger and better clubs, who are dominating the games, I don’t know if he’s that kind of striker for those teams.”

Even at under-19 level, Savic knew Gyokeres was a special talent but seeing him flourish on Europe’s biggest stage has come as a bit of a surprise.

“If you’re good enough to play in Bromma Academy, especially in the under-17 and under-19, that basically means that you’re one of the best players in Sweden,” he continued.

“We knew that he had good standards and he was a good player because he was a starting player for the under-19s. Also the scout that we had in Bromma, said: ‘This guy is going score goals no matter where he’s going to play.’

“So we were pretty confident that he would be a good player and maybe play in Sweden or Scandinavian football but to reach the level that he has reached right now, that’s just amazing.

“Nobody can see in the future that this will happen, that Viktor is going to play in the Championship and then go to Sporting Lisbon and play for the national team.

“He scored four goals against Azerbaijan. It’s all because of him, because he’s very hard-working, he’s very focused, he’s very driven, so we are just a small part of this, but Viktor has done all of the job by himself.”
