Inter and AC Milan will contest the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final at San Siro on Wednesday night, with both sides hoping to reach the final in Rome.
As a reminder, Inter and Milan will have it all to play for in the second leg as they drew the first instalment 1-1 at San Siro back on April 2. Tammy Abraham got the opener with a tidy finish, but Hakan Calhanoglu equalised not long after with a strike from range.
Whoever comes out on top in the return game will almost certainly face Bologna, who beat Empoli 3-0 in the first leg of the other semi-final. Both Milanese sides have lost recently to the Rossoblu, so it would be a tricky contest.
Inter are at home in the second leg as the ‘top seeded’ side having won the league last season. However, the away goal rule will not be in force having been abolished in the past few years.
What this means is that any draw after 90 minutes would see the game go to a 30-minute extra-time period. A 0-0, 1-1, 2-2 etc. would result in another half-hour of action, after which there would be a penalty shootout if still level.
Only once has a Coppa Italia derby gone to extra-time and it was back on 27 December 2017. In that case, the Rossoneri prevailed 1-0 over the Nerazzurri thanks to a goal by Patrick Cutrone (104′) in the first half.
