Manchester United and England legend Paul Scholes has made it clear that he thinks Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman should go to the 2026 World Cup this summer.

Dowman has long been highly rated after making a huge impression at academy level for Arsenal, and he’s just started to play more of a role in Mikel Arteta’s first-team as well.

The 16-year-old recently scored his first Arsenal goal in a 2-0 win at home to Everton, and he started the recent FA Cup game away to Southampton, whilst coming off the bench in last night’s Champions League win away to Sporting Lisbon.

It’s clear Dowman is a special talent, and it seems Scholes already wants to see him involved with England at the upcoming World Cup.

Paul Scholes on “unbelievable” Max Dowman

Watch below as Scholes insists Dowman gives England something different and should be involved in Thomas Tuchel’s squad, just as Lamine Yamal was when he won the Euros with Spain at a similar age.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad, & The Football, Scholes said: “How good is Max Dowman?”

When it was put to him that it might be a bit soon, the pundit added: “No, f*** that. Look at Spain with Yamal.

“He was f****** 15, 16 when he won the Euros. F****** get him in. We’ve not got a player like him.

“I think he’s unbelievable, he’s brilliant.

“Spain would do it. Spain are successful. I don’t think there’s an English player with the ability he’s got.”

Is Max Dowman ready for the World Cup?

Arsenal fans will be excited by Dowman’s rapid rise, but they’ll also surely be concerned about talk of him going to the World Cup already.

That’s a lot of pressure for a young and inexperienced player, who is set to take his GCSEs this summer!

Still, when discussing Dowman recently, Tuchel did not rule out calling up Dowman.

“Everyone who tells me about Max praises him and is full of compliments about him,” Tuchel said of the teenager.

“The reality at the moment is also that he competes for minutes – he’s not a regular starter for Arsenal.

“We always have the chance to call him, maybe, up for the World Cup.

“The thing with young players is to keep their momentum, maybe, going and keep their excitement, and they have a level of fearlessness with them.

“So no need to call him up now and increase the pressure and increase all the noise that comes with it. But yeah, we have all options.”
