The Football Association is reviewing allegations that Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri (22) spat towards Leeds United supporters during Saturday’s Premier League fixture at Turf Moor, BBC Sport has reported. Lancashire Police have also confirmed they are “establishing the facts” after receiving a complaint from a Leeds fan seated in the away section.

The incident is said to have occurred late in the second half of Burnley’s 2–0 victory. Mejbri, who joined the Clarets from Manchester United in August 2024, was introduced as a substitute in the 83rd minute and later received a yellow card in stoppage time following a heated altercation with Leeds defender Gabriel Gudmundsson.

While the FA has yet to formally open an investigation, officials are understood to be reviewing footage and match reports as part of the preliminary process. Lancashire Police confirmed that they are working closely with Burnley to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.

Both clubs have so far declined to comment, while Leeds United are aware of the complaint. Any confirmed spitting offence could carry significant disciplinary consequences under FA rules, with potential suspensions extending up to six matches.
