Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler has sought to calm growing speculation surrounding teenage prospect Harry Howell (17), dismissing reports of a potential January move as little more than background noise.

The 17-year-old has attracted attention following impressive performances at youth level, including a standout display for England’s Under-17s against Germany last season. Sky Germany via Sky Sports had suggested Bayer Leverkusen were monitoring Howell closely, fuelling rumours of an imminent swoop.

Speaking ahead of Brighton’s clash with Arsenal, Hurzeler was quick to downplay the chatter, insisting the club remains relaxed about Howell’s future. “We had an open exchange with him and with his agent,” Hurzeler said. “The rumours, I think, are just noise, and he’s back with us.

Brighton’s confidence is rooted in Howell’s rapid development and growing presence around the first-team environment. Hurzeler made no attempt to hide his admiration, describing the youngster as a player of “big potential” who could play a significant role for the club in the years ahead.

The German coach even offered a light-hearted insight into Howell’s impact on the training ground. “Every day I think about giving him a doping test,” Hurzeler joked. “He’s so good in training.”
