Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a deal is in place for one Liverpool star. Things are on the brink of agreement.

It appears Ibrahima Konate has a new club. The Frenchman will leave Liverpool at the end of his contract this summer, bringing an end to a very successful spell.

Konate couldn't agree on new terms with the Reds, however. It isn't immediately clear why, though perhaps we've now got a clue.

Fabrizio Romano is among many confirming that Konate has an agreement with Real Madrid. Now, this agreement only goes through is Florentino Perez wins the upcoming presidential election at the club but it he is expected to do so.

Konate only actually broke off talks with Liverpool last week, making the timing of this particularly interesting. Real Madrid claimed back at the end of last year that they had no interest in the centre-back and had ended all talks. This was supposedly told to Liverpool as they didn't want to ruin their relationship with the Reds.

However, they've apparently been able to find a complete agreement with Konate in under a week. Mad, that.

The defender is still a Liverpool player for now. That ends at the end of the month, of course, and it now seems highly like that he signs for Real Madrid.
