Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has delivered a big update on Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure, which will come as very frustrating news to Manchester United.
While the priority for United this summer is bolstering the midfield department, other positions could also come into play, including the attack.
In particular, United are eyeing a winger. Jadon Sancho’s United contract officially expired in June. Then there is the small matter of Marcus Rashford’s future. Barcelona opted against keeping him permanently despite the Carrington academy graduate impressing on loan during the 2025/26 season.
There have been suggestions that United and Rashford are open to a reunion, but the preference for both parties would be a permanent parting of ways. Toure, who emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s breakout stars in the season, was mentioned to be a primary target for the club.
He scored five goals and laid on a further nine assists in 29 starts for Hoffenheim. Toure also starred for Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup before their heartbreaking elimination at the hands of Norway in the Round of 32.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were considering usurping Newcastle to the signing of the lightning quick 20-year-old.
However, it has now emerged that the Magpies, having lost Anthony Gordon to Newcastle last month, have won the race for Toure.
Romano wrote on X, “Newcastle agree €50m package deal to sign Ivorian winger Bazoumana Touré, here we go!”
“Agreement sealed with player’s agents and Hoffenheim after official bid submitted today, as @TeleFootball reports.”
“Touré will sign a long term deal at Newcastle this week.”
The Italian journalist added in a subsequent post, “Bazoumana Touré will sign a long term deal at Newcastle this week as permission to travel confirmed, medical booked.”
“Touré preferred #NUFC project over two more clubs keen, one in Germany and one in England.”
While no official confirmation points to United, the speculation suggests they could be the English club in question. Adding further intrigue, arch-rivals Liverpool are also understood to have registered interest.
