Fabrizio Romano on X has confirmed, “Aston Villa are happy to continue with Emi Martínez this season as NO exit is expected after Man United deal off. Martínez not keen on Turkish league move and prepared to stay at Villa. Man United opened talks but never sent an official bid.”
This comes as a boost for Unai Emery who can now plan with stability. A goalkeeper of Martínez’s calibre is not easily replaced and Villa fans will be delighted he remains committed to the club.
Villa supporters will feel relieved and excited at this news. Losing Emi Martínez, one of the most dependable goalkeepers in the Premier League, would have been a huge setback, especially with European commitments ahead. Fans were sceptical of Manchester United’s intentions from the start, given no official bid ever materialised, but the rumour still caused plenty of tension.
From a Villa perspective, keeping Martínez is almost like a new signing. His leadership, shot-stopping and influence in the dressing room are invaluable. Turkish league speculation never seemed realistic, and Martínez staying put suggests his focus remains fully on Villa’s ambitious plans under Emery.
Manchester United fans may feel disappointed that a deal collapsed before it truly began, as questions remain over their own goalkeeping options. For Villa, however, this is a statement of intent, keeping a World Cup winner between the posts as they look to build on last season’s impressive campaign.
The message is clear: Martínez is settled, Villa are strong, and Emery can continue driving the club forward.
