Fabrizio Romano insists Manchester United have already taken a clear stance on Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo.

Both players have been unhappy with the amount of playing time they’ve been receiving this season.

The Dutch striker had to wait until Benjamin Sesko’s injury in November to get a run in the starting lineup, but he was dropped after three fixtures in favour of Mason Mount, who joined Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the attacking trident.

On the other hand, the young Englishman is still waiting for his first Premier League start of the campaign.

Roma & Napoli pushing for Zirkzee & Mainoo

In recent weeks, Roma emerged as the ultimate frontrunners in the race for Zirkzee, and have already made contact with the player and Man Utd.

As for Mainoo, Napoli have been keen to reunite him with Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund amidst their injury crisis in midfield.

In the latest video update posted on his official YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Roma’s interest in Zirkzee is ‘very strong’ and ‘very concrete’, and the same goes for Napoli and Mainoo. He also reveals that the 20-year-old mifielder has attracted interest from at least 10 suitors.

However, the Italian journalist insists that United have no desire to deprive themselves of either player’s services in early January, as they will already be without Amad Diallo, Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui, who will participate in the African Cup of Nations.

While Romano insists Man Utd have made up their mind concerning early January, the implication is that the situation could change later in the month when the AFCON stars are back at Carrington.

This could also hinge on how Zirkzee and Mainoo fare when opportunities come their way in January, and whether their suitors (mainly Roma and Napoli) are still in need of mid-season reinforcement later in the month.
