The Oviedo Provincial Court on Wednesday sentenced a fan to nine months in prison for racially abusing Barcelona footballer Marcus Rashford during a league match at the Carlos Tartiere on 25 September.
LaLiga said the sentence also imposes a three-year ban on entering football stadiums of any category and that the outcome reinforces its work to eradicate such behaviour through awareness, detection and, since 2020, legal complaints, despite the body having no direct disciplinary powers over clubs, supporters, coaches or players.
The court found him guilty of injuring the dignity of persons on racist grounds.
The ruling also includes a six-month fine set at 5 euros per day and special disqualification from educational, sporting and leisure roles for three years and nine months.
The decision takes LaLiga’s tally of favourable anti-racism verdicts to 11.
