Bayern wanted to keep their win-streak going - Dortmund wanted to keep their unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga going. In the end, the Bavarians prevailed and got the 2-1 victory over Dortmund, mostly thanks to a dominant first half.
Here are our player ratings for the Bayern players in this Klassiker edition:
GK: Manuel Neuer - 6/10
Bayern's captain had nothing to do in the first half - and was not really tested much in the second half either, since Dortmund's shots mostly went off target. Had no chance to save Brandt's shot. Neuer was always quick in Bayern's buildup play, which was handy for his teammates.
RB: Sacha Boey - 7/10
The Frenchman was fairly solid throughout the game. He covered his side for the most part and was involved in attacks, especially in the first half. Had a nice shot which went just wide after 30 minutes.
CB: Jonathan Tah - 6/10
Tah continued his good form and did not make any mistakes in this game. He forms a good partnership with Upamecano and the chances Dortmund did have, were not due to the centre-backs making any mistakes.
CB: Dayot Upamecano - 6/10
A solid game by Bayern's central defender who is still in talks for a new contract in Munich. He played a similar game to Tah and was not caught in making any mistakes. Solid.
LB: Konrad Laimer - 7/10
He does not get tired, ever. Laimer was seen all over the pitch in the first half, where he was involved in many attacks. Was sometimes missed in the own box in the second half, that's why his grade is not completely up there.
CDM: Joshua Kimmich - 8/10
Kimmich is still one of the best CDMs in the world and has shown that in this game. Even though he did make one big mistake in the second half, his performance in the first half was a 10/10 and therefore his grad can not be worse than an 8/10.
CDM: Aleksandar Pavlović - 6/10
Looked really solid and calm next to his mentor Kimmich. He did not shine with his usual picture-perfect long balls, but he was there when he was needed. Solid, but more in the background in this game.
RM: Michael Olise - 8/10
A magician on the ball, Olise is one of the best players in the world and most definitely in the Bundesliga. His dribblings are always great, but his shot timing could be better. Should have scored in the first 15 minutes, but he fought his way into scoring in the second half.
CAM: Harry Kane - 9/10
Another great performance from Kane! Kompany once again put him in the unusual CAM position, but you can see why: Kane excels in the playmaker role - he showed his great eye for his teammates with the pre-assist for the second goal. Oh, and he of course scored the opener in the 21st minute after Bayern's first corner of the game.
LM: Luis Díaz - 7/10
Bayern have missed a player like him - he shows the flair Bayern need on the wings. However, he has to make quicker decisions in the final third - there were 2-3 situations in the game, where he shoul've scored for sure. Nevertheless, a good showing.
ST: Nicolas Jackson - 5/10
Instrumental in Bayern's high press, Jackson made Dortmund do unnecessary mistakes in the first half. He himself however, did not get into a single good shooting situation - and that's what a striker is being judged for most at the end of the day.
Leon Goretzka (for Nicolas Jackson, '61) - N/A
Tom Bischof (for Sacha Boey, '84) - N/A
Only players who featured for at least 30 minutes were rated.
