It’s all pointing towards an exciting encounter on Friday, given the Munich and Freiburg Frauen are among the league’s most dangerous teams from set pieces. Bayern top that standing with eight resulting goals, followed closely by their hosts with seven. The Bundesliga’s two best providers also go head-to-head, with Klara Bühl and Selina Vobian both boasting five assists each.

Opponent: Freiburg

Team news

Bayern head to Freiburg still without long-term absentees Lena Oberdorf (cruciate ligament), Katharina Naschenweng (knee) and Franziska Kett (ankle). As things stand, Sydney Lohmann (knee) and Jovana Damnjanovic (after-effects of a collision against Wolfsburg) will also miss out again. Goalkeeper Mala Grohs is back in the squad after her tonsil operation. Giulia Gwinn is also fit after going off with an injury against Frankfurt.

Alexander Straus and his team are going into a busy period in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Pre-match quotes

Alexander Straus: “Freiburg have definitely stepped things up compared to last season. They have a good team and also a few new players, who have strengthened them. They’ve had good games but also some where they lacked some luck. Freiburg are capable of playing tight games. Greater competition is exciting for the league, and Freiburg are doing their bit there. But we obviously want to take three points from everywhere.”

Carolin Simon: “Despite the intense period of the season and the pressure in different competitions, we need to keep our motivation and the enjoyment factor high. I think we’ve managed that very well so far. We always need to be aware that every opponent can take points off us. Regardless of who it’s against, we need to give our all for 90 minutes and perform. We’ve prepared well for Freiburg and are looking forward to showing that tomorrow.”
