FC Porto and Sporting will be in Pot 2 for the Champions League league phase draw on 27 August. So far 29 of the 36 places are confirmed.

According to O Jogo, Portugal will be represented by champions FC Porto and by Sporting, who avoided qualifying thanks to Aston Villa winning the Europa League, which opened a berth via their club ranking.

The nine top seeds are Bayern, Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool, Inter, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid.

Joining Porto and Sporting in Pot 2 will be Dortmund, Roma, Aston Villa, Manchester United, Club Brugge, Betis and PSV. Pots three and four remain unclear, with seven qualifiers still to come.

The remaining seven sides will emerge from a play-off involving 14 teams. Four are already known, Celtic, AEK, LASK and Viking, with the other 10 to progress from three earlier rounds.

Among those earlier entrants are Lyon, coached by Paulo Fonseca, Celje under Vítor Campelos, Ararat-Armenia led by Manuel Tulipa, and Universidade Craiova overseen by Filipe Coelho.

In the Europa League, Torreense are the surprise package among AC Milan, Juventus, Marseille, Leverkusen and Real Sociedad. The Torres Vedras club already know 11 opponents for the league phase, with 24 still to be set, one being the Conference League winner from tomorrow’s final between Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano. Benfica enter the second qualifying round, while Braga start their Conference League campaign at the same stage.
