The Tribunal Arbitral do Desporto has upheld an injunction filed by FC Porto’s SAD, suspending a one-match closure of the club’s supporters’ sections, meaning those areas can remain open for the Benfica clássico.

According to O Jogo, the Portuguese Football Federation’s disciplinary committee ordered those sections to be temporarily shut on 12 December and imposed a 3,825 euros fine. The measures followed disturbances at the derby against Sporting in Alvalade, where 17 people were injured by falling glass from the area occupied by Porto supporters.

The injunction suspends the effect of the punishment until a final decision is taken in the main proceedings.

Had the request been rejected, Porto would have had to close the designated sections for the next home game against Benfica on 14 January in the Taça de Portugal.

TAD stressed that this interim ruling does not anticipate how the arbitral panel will decide the main case.
